About As Head Technician I am involved in a wide range of activities within the department from ordering lab materials and equipment to training in the day-to-day use of equipment. A major part of my time is involved in facility management including equipment maintenance, specialist facilities and equipment requirements and arranging for building maintenance needs. The department has a small but skilled technical team which I lead. I also assist with a wide range of problem solving and logistical planning activities to assist Staff and students prepare for and carry out their research work.
I trained as a Biochemist at Otago and have worked in and around the University campus for 25 years as a research fellow and research administrator in various departments; such as Biochemistry, Zoology, Chemistry, Agresearch and Central Administration. I have been a part of the Food Science Department since 2006.
My other roles include membership of the University Operational Health & Safety Committee, working parties for the development of Fieldwork Guidelines, implementation of the Vault Heath & Safety System, and ‘Project Working Party’ for the St David II building redevelopment. I have trained under the Critical Incident Management System for the management of major incidents.
