Extraction, separation and purification of the bio-active compounds from asparagus roots and their biological active.

Supervised by Dr Alaa Bekhit, Associate Professor John Birch and Associate Professor George Dias.


Hongxia is from China and completed her Masters degree at Xinjiang Agricultural University, China.

Project Outline

Firstly, Hongxia is identifying the bioactive compounds in asparagus through HPLC,  trying the new methods to extract these bioactive compounds from asparagus roots, building the new methods in UPLC-MS/MS and optimizing the methods of separation and purification. She will then choose one or two bioactive compounds to do the cell culture to observe the function of biological activitities.
