Dr Anitra Carr and Associate Professor Gabi Dachs presented Vitamin C: snake oil or cancer and infection therapy? last night at the UOC Health Lecture Series.
Vitamin C is vital for human health but New Zealand's recommended daily intake is among the lowest in the world and does not result in optimum levels in the blood.
The lecture included information on optimal vitamin C daily levels for the healthy and unwell. The pair discussed the evidence for the use of vitamin C in cancer patients and those with serious infections.
They also spoke about their own vitamin C research and of the studies currently underway at the University of Otago, Christchurch campus.
