6th Department of Pathology and Biomedical Science Symposium

Pathology and Biomedical Science 2021The 6th symposium for the Department of Pathology and Biomedical Science was held on 21 and 22 June in the Beaven Lecture Theatre.

Approximately 50 staff and students attended the two half day sessions which included 14 presentations, a social function, a short film making competition and finished with a potluck lunch.

Dr Christoph Goebl from the Centre for Free Radical Research won the best talk prize for his presentation, In defense of the British Cuisine.

The runner up best talk prize went to Infectious diseases physician, Dr Nick Douglas who shared his experiences of living in Darwin Exotica.

Other presentations topics included: photography, dog shows, whisky and the secrets to scientific success.

Our symposia are always accompanied by a creative competition. This year, members of the Department were encouraged to create a short video (or reel) about their research, PhD project or science in general.

Dr Nick Magon from the Centre for Free Radical Research won the PABS Best Reel Prize for his video, up all night to get data. The reels were judged by the symposium attendees.
