Current PhD opportunities in genetic research

Possible PhD projects include basic wet-lab molecular biology and genetics projects through to bioinformatic and computational projects which use our own and many large, internationally available datasets.

These projects will relate to one or more of the research areas described on these pages, or perhaps to novel projects that we initiate from time to time.

Scholarships for postgraduate study are available and depend largely on academic merit, including those from the University of Otago.

Biomedical sciences honours opportunities

We offer a one-year biomedical sciences honours degree in our Christchurch laboratory for students who have completed an approved undergraduate science degree at any New Zealand university, with good grades.

The Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences with Honours (BBiomedSc(Hons)) offers you advanced training in biomedical research and the opportunity to carry out your own in-depth research project, as part of a small class located within the professional research environment of a medical school.

Summer studentship opportunities

The Gene Structure and Function Laboratory often hosts summer students. Our projects are advertised by the Research Office each September. If you are interested in applying for a studentship with us, it is recommended you get in touch early in the year as our internal project outlines need to be developed by mid-year.
