A Geoscience Society of New Zealand Otago Branch seminar by Dr Navot Morag, Geological Survey of Israel, who is visiting the Department of Geology until November 2023.

The Troodos Massif of Cyprus is one of the world's famous ophiolites, including a complete section of Cretaceous age, Neo-Tethyan oceanic lithosphere. Troodos was one of the first ophiolites to be studied in detail and has had a profound influence on our understanding of the oceanic crust.

In this talk, Dr Morag will present an illustrated overview of the Troodos ophiolite geology and architecture, followed by the presentation of two recent geo/thermo-chronological studies conducted in Troodos.
