Project AF8: A multi-agency approach to planning for the next magnitude 8 Alpine Fault earthquake

This presentation will outline the goals of Project AF8 (Alpine Fault magnitude 8), a multi-agency approach to response planning for the next big event on the Alpine Fault. Dr. Orchiston will describe her role as science lead for Project AF8, and outline the last two years of work in designing the Alpine Fault scenario and the development of the SAFER Framework (South Island Alpine Fault Earthquake Response). Emerging science of the impacts and consequences of a large earthquake will be described.
