Clinical

Consultant Ophthalmologist, Dunedin Hospital. Subspecialist interest in assessment and treatment of strabismus and corneal eye disease.

Research

Logan graduated from the University of Otago in 2001, and completed ophthalmic training in Dunedin and Christchurch, before travelling to Australia for further sub-specialist training. He completed an Ocular Motility / General Ophthalmology Fellowship under Dr Lionel Kowal at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne in 2010, followed by an Anterior Segment Fellowship under Dr Mark Chehade at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 2011.

Whilst in Melbourne Logan developed a keen interest in emerging aspects of strabismology, particularly relating to advances in our understanding of orbital imaging, orbital anatomy and the extra-ocular muscle pulley system. This included research on novel surgical techniques to deal with convergence excess in accommodative esotropia, and possible genetic factors in congenital superior oblique palsies.

Future research directions include further investigation of thus far 'enigmatic' aspects of cyclovertical strabismus, effects of glaucoma surgery on corneal health, and vision (amblyopia) screening methods.
