Research

Fiona conducts research focused on the health and wellbeing of rural populations and rural human nd animal health professionals. Fiona uses a range of qualitative and mixed methods methodologies. She is interested in:

The impact of animal disease epidemics on farmers and rural communities
The health and wellbeing of rural men
How interprofessionality can support high quality rural health care delivery and its role in workforce wellbeing
The role of lay health navigators in the delivery of rural health services to those with complex health and social conditions
Moral distress and its impact on human and animal healthcare professionals
How very rural communities meet their own health and social needs

Additional details

I am the programme lead for the West Coast rural interprofessional education programme. This programme hosts health science students from Otago and other tertiary institutions for five blocks, five times a year. The focus of the programme is rural health, Hauora Māori, non-communicable diseases and interprofessionalism.
