Research

Fiona conducts research focused on the health and wellbeing of rural populations and rural human nd animal health professionals. Fiona uses a range of qualitative and mixed methods methodologies. She is interested in:

  • The impact of animal disease epidemics on farmers and rural communities
  • The health and wellbeing of rural men
  • How interprofessionality can support high quality rural health care delivery and its role in workforce wellbeing
  • The role of lay health navigators in the delivery of rural health services to those with complex health and social conditions
  • Moral distress and its impact on human and animal healthcare professionals
  • How very rural communities meet their own health and social needs

Additional details

I am the programme lead for the West Coast rural interprofessional education programme. This programme hosts health science students from Otago and other tertiary institutions for five blocks, five times a year. The focus of the programme is rural health, Hauora Māori, non-communicable diseases and interprofessionalism.
