Research
Jesse works in the Pacific Islands Research and Student Support Unit (PIRSSU). He undertakes research topics about the factors that contribute to increased academic achievement by Pacific students and evaluates the programmes provided by PIRSSU. Jesse provides statistical evidence that contributes to the efficacy of the work conducted by the Unit.Jesse is a statistician who has worked for the Ministry of Health and has a special interest in mental health and the Pacific community. His PhD thesis looked into mental illness among Cook Islanders and other Pacific people in New Zealand, and their use of mental health services. It draws on data from two sources that he has access to through his past work: Te Rau Hinengaro: the New Zealand Mental Health Survey and New Zealand's National Mental Health Service dataset (MHINC/PRIMHD).
