Research
Karyn has a background in pharmacology and psychology, has worked broadly across pharmaceutical medicine in New Zealand and the UK and is a member of the Pharmacoepidemiology Research Network Core Academic Group.
She has a strong interest in public outreach and communication about medicines, Māori health, health inequities, and partnering with community groups to collaborate on locally relevant research projects. Her current research includes:
- Interactive public outreach about the science of medicines, which aims to empower children and their whānau to have confident discussions and make informed, shared, and positive decisions about medicines
- A participatory science project with Cystic Fibrosis Otago investigating safe disposal of antibiotic residue in nebulisers
- Exploring the supportive care needs of Māori cancer survivors
- Exploring whānau acceptability of CovidCard contact tracing technology in the Ngongotahā CovidCard trial
