Research

Bruce Kidd (he/him) is a public health nutrition researcher who strongly focuses on sustainable food systems that promote human and planetary health, with a strong commitment to equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. This includes research in sustainable and healthy diets, digital food advertising, and food policy. He has previously worked on projects such as the Healthy Policy Evaluation (HYPE) study, the Salt Alternatives Study (SALTS), and evaluating food environments with INFORMAS.

In his current role as a Research Fellow for the Healthier Lives-funded Sustainable New Zealand Diets project, Bruce is working alongside Dr Cristina Cleghorn and Dr Christina McKerchar on the consultation part of the project. This part of the project aims to engage with members of the public and policymakers to shape the selection of several policy interventions to create a shift towards an optimal diet for the health of New Zealanders, health inequities and the environment.

Bruce completed his master's thesis that looked at the cost and environmental impact of current (according to the most recent national nutrition survey), healthy (according to the current national guidelines), flexitarian and vegan (according to the EAT-Lancet Planetary Diet) diets.
