Three Physiology staff were amongst the winners at the School of Biomedical Sciences annual awards this week.

Rachael Holloway (Compliance Officer) was awarded the Research Support – Distinguished Contribution Award.

This award recognises distinguished contributions to research, without which a significant fraction of the nominating department’s research output would not have happened. Rachael received this award to recognise her excellent management of Health and Safety in the Department of Physiology over the past 12 years.

Dr Jeff Erickson (Senior Lecturer) received the Emerging Teacher Award.

This award is for outstanding teaching achievement, delivery and innovation in teaching. This is for academic staff who have held an appointment at the University of Otago for a period of between two and seven years. Jeff received this award to recognise the significant effort he has put into redevelopment of Physiology lecture and lab material. In addition, Jeff consistently receives excellent student feedback and course evaluations.

Fran Short (Administrator) received the Teaching Support – Sustained Contribution Award.

This award recognises staff members who ‘go-the-extra-mile’ and have made significant and sustained contributions over more than 10 years. Fran, has worked in the Department of Physiology as the Teaching Administrator for over 30 years. This award recognises Fran’s generous and compassionate support of postgraduate students over many years. Fran also provides countless hours of behind-the-scenes administrative support to make the 400-level courses run smoothly, as well as being responsible for Physiology undergraduate teaching resources and Blackboard uploads.
