Communications support for Health Sciences staff

Working closely with the Marketing Advisers, communications advisers communicate the work, activities and achievements of staff and students in Health Sciences. They write for external and internal audiences, working across all types of media.

Christchurch Campus

Lorelei Mason, Communications Adviser (Christchurch)

Lorelei Mason (2021)Lorelei is an experienced journalist having worked in print, radio and television news for over 30 years. Her last position was as Health Reporter/Correspondent for TVNZ’s 1News for 23 years. During this time she won more than a dozen national and international journalism awards. Her prior reporting experience extends to positions at both BBC Television and BBC World Service Radio in London, as a presenter for Sky Television and radio journalist for Newstalk ZB in Auckland, 3ZB and The Press in Christchurch. Since leaving TVNZ a few years ago Lorelei has managed her own Health Public Relations consultancy, representing Kiwi clients from the fields of health research, health charities, NGOs, corporates and health start-ups.

Wellington Campus

Cheryl Norrie, Communications Adviser (Wellington)

Cheryl Norrie imageCheryl is a highly experienced print media journalist who began her career at the Gore Ensign and the Otago Daily Times. Her work has been published in a wide range of newspapers and magazines including the Dominion Post, the science journal Nature Biotechnology, and the Australian Journal of Pharmacy. More recently she has been writing for the Dominion Post advertising supplements department and covering New Zealand affairs for the German Press Agency (DPA). She has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from the University of Canterbury.

Cheryl works part-time providing communications for the University of Otago, Wellington.

Marketing support for Health Sciences staff

Marketing advisers Rewa Pene and Rhys Pritchard (Dunedin Campus), Nina Lamb (Christchurch Campus), and Fran Wright (Wellington Campus) are the primary marketing points of contact for Health Sciences’ departments and schools.

They are able to assist with any marketing requests including all print and digital marketing collateral, marketing strategies, campaigns, and complete packages for any large events.

Dunedin Campus

Rewa and Rhys work together to ensure you receive the best support possible, however due to the large and complex nature of Health Sciences on Dunedin Campus, they have been assigned primary responsibility for particular schools and departments.

Rewa Pene, Marketing Adviser (Medicine, Dentistry)

Rewa PeneRewa provides relevant, proactive and customised marketing advice and support to the Division of Health Science clients to help strengthen strategic and operational marketing objectives to support the strategic imperatives of the University.

Rewa is the conjugate between the Division and the central Marketing Services team and can facilitate marketing services for web design, content, graphic design, video production and events. Rewa works collaboratively with the Communications team to support marketing activities.

Rewa has a background in marketing, communications, event management, sponsorship engagement, graphic design, web development, and photography, and has worked in the Health Science Division for over four years.

Christchurch campus

Nina Lamb, Marketing Adviser (Christchurch)

Nina Lamb imageNina provides marketing adviser services to the Health Sciences Division at the University of Otago, Christchurch.

As the primary marketing point of contact for the Christchurch campus, Nina coordinates all integrated marketing campaigns and supports Health Sciences staff to ensure activities align with the University’s strategic imperatives and reinforce the University’s reputation for academic excellence.

Nina works collaboratively with the Christchurch-based Communications Adviser and Events Coordinator, and is supported by the Marketing Services team in Dunedin.

Nina has an extensive background in marketing, communications, event management, and sponsorship engagement. She joined the University in September 2018 after working in the technology sector for over 10 years.

Wellington campus

Fran Wright, Marketing Adviser (Wellington)

Fran Wright imageFran is the Marketing Adviser for the Wellington campus of University of Otago. She is the primary point of contact for marketing activity across all Wellington departments and ensures initiatives are strategically aligned, easy to implement and get great results.

Fran liaises with the Marketing Services team in Dunedin on behalf of Wellington staff and works closely with the Wellington-based Communications Adviser and Events Coordinator.

From 2012–2018 Fran was the Marketing and Web Manager for the Department of Public Health at the University of Otago, Wellington. Prior to this, Fran enjoyed over 15 years in brand and product-marketing roles across a number of sectors including healthcare, FMCG, and telecommunications. She is an Otago graduate with degrees in Commerce and Science, and sometimes feels she’s still a student!

We understand that things crop up unexpectedly and you may find yourself needing some urgent marketing support. In these instances, we will make every effort to meet your deadline. Otherwise, we respectfully request that you provide Marketing Services with a minimum two-week turnaround for any work required.

If changes are made after the project has moved to these services then your project will move to the back of the queue. Your marketing adviser will guide you through the process to avoid any unnecessary delays.
