The Performance-Based Research Fund (PBRF):
- Distributes research funding in the tertiary education sector
- Allocates research funds according to the quality of the research produced in each tertiary education organisation (TEO)
- Takes into account the quality of the researchers, research degree completions, and external research income
The University of Otago's PBRF ranking
Our Schools of Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Dentistry and our Centre for Postgraduate Nursing were the top academic units in their disciplines in the 2012 PBRF Ranking and our Faculty of Medicine had 251 FTE of staff ranked as A or B. Our Christchurch School of Medicine has the highest rank of any School of Medicine in New Zealand, with a score of 5.4 and 68.4FTE of its staff ranked A or B. Our Medical Sciences departments also ranked highly, for example Biochemistry, scoring 5.4, with 20 of its 35 staff ranked A or B.
