23th_poster20160906The International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Kyoto, Japan), which is widely known by Japanologists as “Nichibunken,” has organised an annual international symposium at various universities around the world over the last two decades. The 23rd Nichibunken symposium will be hosted by the University of Otago this November. It is the first to be held in New Zealand. 25 leading experts in Japanese Studies in New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, the USA and Japan, will present their work to showcase the diversity and depth of Japanese Studies. The event is open to the public. Please note, however, that some presentations will be given in the Japanese language.

The two-day symposium will be preceded by the pre-symposium public lecture by Professor Fred Dickinson (University of Pennsylvania) on The First World War as Global War: Japan, New Zealand and the Dawn of an Asia/Pacific World at Burns 2 Lecture Theatre on Wednesday 23 November at 5.15pm. The lecture is also open to the public.

For the symposium, registration is required although there is no registration fee. If you wish to attend and/or require further information, please email takashi.shogimen@otago.ac.nz or symposium@nichibun.ac.jp.
