Dr Mark Stocker worked at the Department of History and Art History from 2003-2014, where he was an Associate Professor and Programme co-ordinator for Art History and Theory for much of that period.
In 2014, he moved to Wellington, where he is Curator Historical International Art at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. He curated the exhibition 'European Splendour' (2016-17), the current hot-spot 'The Te Pahi Medal', and assisted the moves to secure a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Otago and Te Papa, signed in 2016. He has contributed numerous article-length pieces to Te Papa's Blog, and his third article in Te Papa's refereed journal, Tuhinga, is due to appear later this month (June 2017) as well as an edited book honouring the late Jonathan Mane-Wheoki (Victoria University Press), due in July. Dr Stocker remains an energetic publisher, with over 200 books, articles and essays to his credit. In 2014 he was elected as a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (FSA). As well as being an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Otago, he is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of Humanities, University of Canterbury (History), where he taught from 1986-2003.
