Jon Cornwall's Article on Body Donation

Monday 17 March 2014 2:02pm

Dr Jon Cornwall, Senior research fellow in the Faculty of Law's research centre SoGoS (Centre for Society, Governance and Science), recently published an article on body donation that that has received attention in the Sunday Star Times newspaper and on the Stuff news website. The article highlights annual trends in the behaviour of body donors, showing that significantly more donors register in months of August and September than in any other month. 'It is an interesting observation,' said Dr Cornwall, 'and as yet we can only explain such behaviour based on theories, such as neurochemical changes that occur during winter or the fact that people here may be more likely to be seriously ill during winter and start contemplating death at such a time.' These findings continue Dr Cornwall's work in the field of body donation, where in addition to assessing the characteristics and behaviour of body donors he is also examining various aspects of the legislation that covers the act of body donation.
