UOCE students awarded Kupe Scholarships

Monday, 31 July 2017 4:07pm

University of Otago College of Education students, Kane Johnson and Sammy Seau, have been awarded Kupe scholarships from TeachNZ.

Only 30 of these prestigious scholarships are given out each year to recognise highly talented Māori and Pasifika people who have leadership expertise, and who will be role models of the teaching profession in their communities. Kupe scholarship recipients will have their course fees paid and receive a $15,000 study allowance.

Kane is a student at our Southland Campus studying towards a Bachelor of Teaching - Te Pōkai Mātauranga o te Ao Rua (Primary Bicultural Education) and Sammy is studying towards a Master of Teaching and Learning - Secondary Education.

Kane and Sammy both flew to Wellington earlier this month for a award presentation at Parliament earlier this month.
