Investigates theories of equality and applies them to poverty, gender, ethnicity, culture and ability. Critically addresses the question of why educators should be concerned about societal inequalities.
Inclusive education, bicultural education, multicultural education, equality of opportunity, social equality, individual rights, group rights, etc - theories about each suggest an ideal social arrangement that demands equality of something. There are often conflicts or tensions among the theories. This paper gives you the opportunity to identify, compare and critically appraise the features of equality being demanded in a selection of educational policies and practices and to research one of your choosing.
