MFCO441 Special Topic: Digital Asia

Digital Asia provides an opportunity for students to engage critically and creatively with contemporary approaches to Asian digital media and communications.

The paper examines the role of digital communications media in the constitution of 'Asia' as a coherent cultural geographical space. Topics discussed in this paper include mediated representations of Asia as 'Oriental', techno-Orientalism, post-humanism and intersections between Asian media and gender and Queer politics. Digital Asia considers multiple modes for engaging with Asia via representations including cinematic, televisual and blogged modes.
