Getting Ready to Study Dietetics

Prior to applying for the Master of Dietetics students will need to complete a BCApSc, BAppSc or BSc in Human Nutrition.

Year 13 Chemistry, Biology, and Statistics are strongly recommended for students wishing to persue a BCApSc, BAppSc or BSc

To be eligible to apply for the Master of Dietetics you need to undertake the following papers or have been admitted to the University of Otago with the status of one who is entitled to proceed to the Masters:

HUBS 191 Human Body Systems I 18 pts
HUBS 192 Human Body Systems II 18 pts
CHEM 191 Biological Chemistry 18 pts
BIOC 192 Foundations of Biochemistry 18 pts
HUNT 141 Understanding Human Nutrition 18 pts
POPH 192 Population Health (recommended)
Year 2
HUNT 241 Fundamentals of Nutrients and Health 18 pts
HUNT 242 Nutritional Assessment 18 pts
HUNT 243 Lifecycle Nutrition 18 pts
HUNT 244 Foodservice Environments (Previously HUNT231 Foodservice Operations) 18 pts
Year 3
HUNT 341 Nutrition and Behaviour Change Communication 18 pts
HUNT 342 Nutrition and Chronic Diseases 18 pts
HUNT 343 Community and Public Health Nutrition 18 pts
HUNT 344 Foodservice Management 36 pts

The remaining 90 points can be made up of optional papers.  Useful areas of studies to complement Dietetics include: Māori, Marketing and Management, Pacific Health, Psychology, Public Health, Science Communication and Sport and Exercise Nutrition.
