Jo Slater's research mentioned in a radio interview

Friday, 4 September 2015

Recent MSc graduate Jo Slater's research thesis was mentioned during a radio interview on athletes and low energy availability. Although exercise is extremely beneficial for some individuals who are unable to balance their dietary intake with the exercise energy expenditure serious health consequences occur including poor bone health and hormonal imbalances, low energy availability. Jo undertook the only study so far on the prevalence of athletes at risk of low energy availability in New Zealand. She is now following up this research trying to validate tools to easily and quickly identify those at risk of low energy availability. If anyone is interested in this research please contact LEANZ@otago.ac.nz

Dr Katherine Black also presented on the health issues of low energy availability, current research and future research requirements at the female athlete health symposium
