ICT Director/Manager

Plan, organise, direct, control and co-ordinate the acquisition, development, maintenance and use of computer systems within the University.

Business and Systems Analyst

Analyses operating business processes. Liaises with users to formulate requirements for system and software solutions. Identifies and evaluates limitations in existing systems and associated processes, procedures and methods. Proposes solutions and develops system specifications for modifications, additional system components or new systems and system functionality and behaviour in order to meet user needs.

IT Programmer

Interprets specifications, technical designs and flow charts provided by an analyst or user; writes code for software applications to meet specifications; tests and maintains code for software applications, and writes technical documentation.

Analyses user needs, documents requirements and system specifications; and completes programming to meet specifications.

Internet and Multimedia Developer

Plans, produces and maintains websites and multimedia products using web programming languages, software applications, technologies and databases to meet user needs. Creates and manipulates computer animation, audio, video and graphic image files into multimedia programs.

Software Engineer

Designs, develops, modifies, documents, tests, implements, installs and supports software applications and systems.

Software Tester

Specifies, develops and writes test plans and test scripts, produces test cases, carries out regression testing, and uses automated test software applications to test the behaviour, functionality and integrity of computer software, and documents the results of tests in defect reports and related documentation.

Database Administrator

Plans, develops, configures, maintains and supports database management systems in accordance with user requirements ensuring optimal database integrity, security, backup, reliability and performance.

ICT Security Specialist

Establishes, manages and administers an organisation's ICT security policy and procedures to ensure preventive and recovery strategies are in place, and minimise the risk of internal and external security threats.

Systems Administrator

Maintains and supports operating systems and associated server hardware, web operating systems, middleware, software and databases ensuring optimum system integrity, security, backup and performance. Provides technical support and troubleshoots issues.

Computer Network and Systems Engineer

Plans, develops, deploys, tests and optimises network and system services, taking responsibility for configuration management and operational readiness of network systems, especially environments with multiple operating systems and configurations, and provides troubleshooting and fault-finding services for network problems.

Network Administrator

Installs and maintains hardware and software, documents diagnosis and resolution of faults, manages user passwords, security and inventory documentation, ensures the efficient performance of servers, printers and personal computers, and attends to other operational tasks. May provide help desk support and user training.

Network Analyst/Network Engineer

Researches and analyses network architecture, and recommends policies and strategies for designing, planning and coordinating an organisation's network such as the total system environment and architecture. May also perform operational tasks such as monitoring system performance, software and hardware upgrades, backups, support and network maintenance.

ICT Support Technician

Supports and maintains computer systems and peripherals by installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and resolving problems with computer hardware, software and networks. Provides user support and guidance. May work in a helpdesk environment. Includes ICT Network Technician and ICT Customer Support Technician.
