UWA GatewayThe University of Western Australia (UWA) is a dynamic and progressive community of lecturers, researchers, students and staff, all bound together by their hunger for learning, innovation and research.

Located 10 minutes from Perth's busy central shopping and business district, and bordered by the picturesque Swan River, UWA's Perth campus is a mixture of gorgeous early 20th Century sandstone and terracotta buildings and more modern facilities surrounded by leafy heritage-listed gardens.

Perth is Australia's fourth largest city and is the capital of the thriving State of Western Australia. Voted as one of the world's most liveable cities, the inhabitants of Perth enjoy a climate and lifestyle that is envied by many.

Exchange Information

  • Undergraduate and graduate level exchange.
  • Semester and summer school option.
  • Academic Year: Late February/March - Late November (Semester 1: February - June; Semester 2: July - November).
  • Minimum course load: 24 points credit points per semester. Most units (courses) have a value of 6 credit point.
  • “Course” at UWA refers to the degree program e.g. Bachelor of Science. “Unit” at UWA refers to an individual class e.g. BIOL1130 Core Concepts in Biology. Class Format: Lectures, tutorials, labs, practicals.
  • Service Learning units offer courses such as CHEM3006 Chemistry Beyond the Laboratory may be of interest to your BSc Chemistry/Geography student; BIOL3360 Saving Endangered Species starts with a one-week field work component (great for a third year biology/zoology/botany/environmental science student); BUSN2102 Changing the World, a 'make a difference' social change stuff from the business and public health sides, where innovation and entrepreneurship can become a tool to tackle homelessness, poverty and social injustice; INDG2700 Knowing Country: The Dreaming and Darwin (for biology students and also for anthropology/social science students. How do Australia's First Nations people view their place in the environment and natural history versus Western views? How does their environmental management work? This unit also incorporates a field trip to Albany).
  • Structured internships for credit with not-for-profit, community and government organisations through the McCusker Centre for Citizenship. These can run over the summer and winter periods as well as being available in each semester.  (Note: there is an earlier application deadline). Talk to your Otago Exchange Adviser if interested.
  • Work Integrated Learning (for BA and Commerce students in their second or third academic year) - opportunity to undertake a supervised placement within a for-profit, not-for-profit or public sector organisation. Talk to your Otago Exchange Adviser if interested.
  • Postgraduate Units in the School of Psychology are not available to exchange/study abroad students.
  • Core Law units will not be available to exchange students.
  • MBA - to be admitted as an exchange student into the UWA (Flexible) MBA program (offered on a trimester basis), students are required to have a minimum of two years professional work experience and an IELTS of 7. Exchange students are not eligible to enter into the Full Time MBA.
