Description: If you've been hung up by a mystery international number, don't call back!
A fraud type called Wangiri Fraud (Japanese: One Ring) has increased in New Zealand over the last 12 months.
It is a phenomenon that is increasing among most telecommunications companies around the world at the moment and relies on people calling the number back so they are then billed at a premium rate. For example, a common number is +881 or +882 which are satellite numbers billed at $18.50 per minute. Countries such as Cuba, and Tunisia with high termination rates are also becoming common.
The advice is if you don't recognise the number, don't call it back.
