Unscheduled Outage: Otago Capture
Timeframe: Wednesday 3 October, 8:00am - 1:00pm
Services Affected:
- Otago Capture Recording
Description:
Otago Capture has experienced a significant outage today, and many recordings have been lost. Any recordings which were scheduled to commence recording between 8am and 1pm today, October 3rd, will not have taken place (or, in the case of 1pm lectures, may have begun recording late).
As of 1pm, the service appears to be restored and functioning normally. We expect all other captures scheduled for today to complete as planned.
This failure was due to a global outage of the Echo360 cloud platform that powers Otago Capture. All universities in the Australia Pacific region which use Echo360 have been similarly affected. We will seek further information from Echo360 in the coming days, including advice about the steps they will take to ensure this does not happen again.
Sincere apologies for this lapse. For courses which used Otago Capture last year, there may be a possibility of retrieving a cognate lecture from the 2017 version of the course.
Please contact its.elearning@otago.ac.nz if you want to explore this, or if you wish to discuss this outage or seek any further information from us.
