Haruko has been specializing in language teaching for more than three decades. Before joining our programme as a permanent teaching staff member in 2010, she had been teaching English at Waseda University in Tokyo. For more than 20 years, she has been devoting herself to help Otago students to understand Japanese language, culture and customs. Her classes are conducted in a relaxed atmosphere and are lively and fun while at the same time providing a challenging learning environment. Haruko aims for her students to achieve mastery over all required levels in Japanese language for those wishing to continue their academic and social careers in Japan. Many of her students successfully go on to work, study and live in Japan.
