Research in Languages and Cultures

The Languages and Cultures Programme is committed to create, advance, preserve, promote and apply knowledge, critical thinking and intellectual independence

The staff teaching in Languages and Cultures have specific qualifications and research/publications in the following disciplines: literary studies, comparative literature, linguistics, film studies, media studies, animal studies, cultural studies, anthropology, history, art history, digital cultures. One scholarly journal for French literature - Otago French Notes - and one book series - Otago German Studies - are run from the Languages and Cultures Programme.

Our Research seminar series includes presentations from our staff and postgraduate students as well as colleagues coming from other universities both in New Zealand and overseas.

Languages and Cultures is also actively engaged in promoting inter-disciplinary research and has hosted or co-hosted very successful international symposia, workshops, and conferences.
