Poems on Several Occasions

Poems on Several Occasions

The first book printed in Ireland was the Boke of Common Prayer in 1551. The printer was Humphrey Powell, who had been granted £20 sterling by the Privy Council 'towards his setting up in Ireland' as royal printer in July 1550. The first book using an Irish language fount was Aibidil Gaoidheilge agus Caiticiosma, a primer printed by John Kearney in 1571. Note the two-colour title-page printing of this edition by Thomas Parnell, one of the 'Graveyard poets'.
