A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

Charles Brasch also bought Joyce’s semi-autobiographical coming-of-age novel A Portrait of an Artist, and the now scarce Pomes Penyeach (1927). H. G. Wells said of the former: ‘it’s a book to buy, read and lock up’, while of the latter poems, Ezra Pound said ‘They belong in the Bible or in the family album with the portraits.’ Typically, Brasch’s books are all in fine condition; the publisher Tauchnitz’s blue wrapper is still present.
