Robert A. Maguire (1921-2005) was an American illustrator and artist known primarily for his crime noir paperback covers. Working with such publishers as Pocket, Dell, Ace, Harper, Avon, Silhouette, Bantam, Lion, Beacon and Monarch, he produced some 600 covers. His career in the demanding field of cover art began at the Arts Student League, with instructor Frank Reilly, and then a lucky break through Trojan Publications, with titles such as Hollywood Detective Magazine (October 1950).

Here is Maguire (with bottles), a photograph of a model he used, and the models and final cover art for Robert O. Saber’s Sucker Bait (1955).
