Greek Art and Literature 700-530 BC

The decision to establish the UOP was taken by the University Council in 1957, formalized the following year, and in operation by 1959. The first Editor was Peter Havard-Williams, the University Librarian. A publications programme was instituted, a Joint Publications committee was formed to assist the Editor, and the firm of John McIndoe printed and marketed the books. In 1958, Havard-Williams and John McIndoe travelled to Australia to glean information about book production and design. T. B. L. Webster’s Greek Art and Literature was the first UOP publication, and because of contacts made, was co-published with Melbourne University Press.
