Port Hills Maintenance Spring 2020 ImageThe Department of Pathology and Biomedical Science's Green Team organised a group of staff, students and whānau from to attend a Christchurch City Council spring maintenance volunteer day at Eastside bush on Saturday afternoon.

Maintenance is the most critical part of ecological restoration success. Without regular maintenance for the first three years, native plants wouldn't survive due to grass competition.

The departmental Green Team was established in 2019 and aims to educate and advise the department on issues relating to sustainability. Chaired by Dr Louisa Ashby, it helps to translate the University's Sustainability Framework into local actions that impact on environmental sustainability, including waste reduction, recycling, energy reduction and carbon offset initiatives.
