Increasing demands to practise corporate social responsibility have encouraged some businesses to pursue partnerships with nonprofit organisations. However, what is regarded as a "fair" exchange within these partnerships is not well understood, neither by the corporate nor the nonprofit organisations. This has led to doubt among some nonprofit and corporate managers as to whether to enter into such partnerships, and uncertainty among consumers as to whether to support them. This study explores the experiences of both corporate and nonprofit participants in such partnerships. It aims to understand what the outcomes of the partnerships are, how the partnerships have come to take the form they do, and how the partners work together. It looks at the ways in which each party is able to influence the nature of the partnership and how this relates to conceptions of a fair and appropriate exchange between partners.
