Before Otago MBA

Amit Doshi"Prior to attending the Otago MBA program, I was working in my home city Mumbai, India as a Key Accounts Manager at Meril Life Sciences. With a graduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, I have always wanted to pursue a career in Medical Devices and my stint at Meril was immensely fulfilling. Personally, there were many advantages of living in a city like Mumbai, which has so much to offer in addition to living next to my close ones. As an avid traveler, I had explored many cities globally, but had never been to Australasia. So, I figured what better place to pursue my postgraduate studies than here in New Zealand?"

Why Otago MBA?

"There is a plethora of reasons why I choose this programme. Firstly, what made me consider this programme is the small class size that facilitates a personalised approach, affordable fees, and a very experienced faculty. In addition, there is an incentive to explore one of the most beautiful countries in the world – New Zealand, and you have classmates of different nationalities which adds to the incredible diversity of the cohort. Moreover, I liked the structure of the Otago MBA programme and the availability of an exchange semester at an esteemed partner university in Phase 2 of this programme. All of these reasons aligned with my personal goals made Otago MBA the perfect institution to study in."

Highlights at Otago MBA

“Otago MBA helped me network with some really great minds not only within the MBA programme, but also at the rest of the University of Otago. Also I strongly believe that the Otago MBA has a lot to offer, especially if you immense yourself completely into the programme. Apart from the MBA, I took up a consulting project with Ignite Consultants and participated for a Bollywood dance at Indian Student Association annual event. Both these experiences marked some of the most beautiful memories I got to cherish during Otago MBA. Otago MBA and University of Otago also hosts a series of talks that can further enhance our network and knowledge. My most memorable highlight was the exchange semester at Duke University, USA during Phase 2 where I pursued my Marketing Management concentration. Apart from studying some great courses, I had a chance to explore some great cities in USA and also travel to Cuba with my classmates during Spring Break 2017. I have made some life-long friendships and I cannot thank Otago MBA enough for the same. Overall, it is an enthralling experience."

Life after graduation

"During the last leg of my exchange semester at Duke, I fetched an internship with Maxx Orthopedics Inc., an innovative medical devices company based at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. This experience blossomed into a full-time opportunity as a Marketing Manager. I was thrilled about this opportunity and looked forward to applying key concepts and rich values learned during my MBA programme at work. In addition, I started as a freelance career consultant. My website address is consultantamit.com."

Future plans

"My dream is to set new benchmarks, advance up the corporate ladder and in the long run take on a leadership role for an organisation in the healthcare industry, which continuously challenge itself and redefine its capabilities, thus staying ahead of the competition. My heartfelt desire is to leverage the advantages of cutting edge technology and disruptive innovations to make world-class health care available to the weaker sections of the society across the globe.

"My personal goal is to explore 40 countries before I turn 40, and my current count is seven countries with 11 years more to go. No wonder why Statistics was my favorite paper at MBA."
