Before the MBA
Ismeni had quite a diverse background leading up to the MBA. After completing her undergraduate study at the University of Otago, she went on to work for top-tier chartered accounting firms followed by a few years in the financial services sector.
Although she had enjoyed her career this far – and gained invaluable experience and skills – she believed it was time for a change. An MBA seemed to be the perfect progression to broaden her knowledge and skills.
Why the Otago MBA?
When assessing her MBA options, she wanted a university programme that offered the best quality and value. But that was not the only thing she was looking for.
"When it comes to an MBA, I believe that significant value also comes from the development of 'soft' skills and interactions in a collaborative learning environment. To me, that was a unique and powerful differentiator, and the Otago MBA appeared to be an excellent fit," Ismeni says.
Highlights
"The Otago MBA has exceeded my expectations in a profound way. The programme has offered me a wide degree of breadth and insight – and ingrained in me the fundamental principles of what it takes to add sustainable value to business.
"While I have gained valuable tools and developed a more strategic approach towards business, the highlight for me was the people – many of whom are now good friends!" she added.
Post-MBA
After completing her MBA she transitioned into a consulting role with a company she was involved with during the programme. She also took up a board director and treasurer position with a not-for-profit organisation.
"Overall, the programme has enabled me to confidently progress my career as a more rounded and perceptive business professional," she concludes.
