International teaching and industry experience

Since 2005, I have been working with learning and development initiatives for large and small organisations on a global level. I facilitate leadership development programmes for companies like Daimler, Airbus, HSBC, Sandvik, Ericsson etc.

My own business experience is more on the entrepreneurial side where I have been running my own businesses for the past 20 years within the consulting sector, also running a restaurant business in China. I have lived in China for about 20 years, and a lot of my work is related to China.

Why Tobias enjoys teaching in the MBA programme

Obviously, Otago is a great University with a long history. Although it has long traditions, they have been able to stay up to date. For me it is great to be involved in a team with a wide range of experience. It's a great mix of academia, as well as professionals from the corporate world.

The virtual approach of the MBA is also very attractive to me, and I really enjoy the virtual classrooms and lectures which I didn't have access to when I was studying.

I enjoy interacting in meetings when you have participants from very diverse backgrounds and you can get different perspectives on the issues being discussed. The enjoyment of learning from others, as well as making sure participants get inspired to experiment with new ideas and concepts is a key driver for me.

What global perspective is reflected in your course/teaching?

It's all about global perspectives. For me, being a Swede frequently teaching in Chinese, brings a global perspective to each conversation. In my experience, I'm also dealing with students and participants from all over the world, and a vast range of industries and organisations, so the global perspective is always present. That's one of the things I really love about my job!
