Primary Prevention of Overweight – The main mesults from the Danish SundStart intervention
Professor Berit Lilienthal Heitmann, PhD
The Danish SundStart RCT recruited healthy weight children aged 2–6 years who were susceptible to obesity (high birth weight, pre-pregnancy overweight, low maternal education) for a 1.3 year obesity prevention trial.
The intervention delivered guidance for improvements in diet and physical activity and sleep quantity and quality, and reduction of stress based on the individual needs and capabilities of each individual family.
In total 553 children participated at baseline and 365 (66%) completed the study. Intention-to-treat analyses indicated no differences in weight gain between intervention and control children, but potential differences in body composition.
The results of the SundStart intervention will be discussed during the presentation.
