Research

Kate graduated from the University of Canterbury with a BSc in chemistry in 2004. She was awarded a Walsh fellowship by Teagasc (the Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority) to undertake her PhD in microbiology from the University of Ulster. Her PhD, which investigated Verocytotoxigenic Escherichia coli in Irish food animals focussing on the prevalence and virulence of emerging serogroups of VTEC, was completed in 2013.

Kate joined the Centre for International Health as a Postdoctoral Fellow, based in northern Tanzania, as part of the HAZEL (Hazards Associated with Zoonotic Enteric pathogens in emerging Livestock systems) project.
