Research

My expertise lies in the area of translational research in Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine targeted towards bone regeneration. I am interested in the development of novel scaffolds and hydrogels derived from both natural and synthetic resources while carrying out suitable modifications to improve their functionality and biocompatibility in order to enhance the rate of bone regeneration.

My projects include:

  1. Development of a novel bioactive hydroxyapatite bone substitute from NZ sourced bovine bones for bone regeneration
  2. Extraction of hydroxyapatite from natural resources
  3. Bioactive biocomposites for bone regeneration
  4. Ionic substitutions in synthetic hydroxyapatite
  5. Development of a novel temperature-sensitive zinc-doped chitosan/beta-glycerophosphate hydrogel for bone tissue engineering

Additional details

In November 2019, I completed my PhD at the Department of Anatomy in Otago working on the "Development of a novel bioactive hydroxyapatite bone substitute from NZ sourced bovine bones for bone regeneration" under the supervision of Professor George Dias (Anatomy) and Associate Professor Stephen Moratti (Chemistry).

Before my PhD, I completed my MSc in Biomaterials & Regenerative Medicine at the University of Sheffield (UK) with a distinction and my Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology at SRM University (India).

Aside from research, I am passionate about campaigning for mental health awareness. I am also a dancer, radio host and a keen cricketer.
