ClinicalCo-ordinator of clinical education services delivered through the Otago Clinical Skills Laboratories (OCSL), facilitating the clinical teaching needs for ALM 4 and 5, Trainee Interns, staff at the Southern District Health Board (Otago), and many other professional disciplines outside of the SDHB and DSM.

Additional details

Paul was a Registered Nurse in acute cardiology in Norfolk, UK, prior to moving to New Zealand. Upon arrival in New Zealand in 2008 he worked as a senior Registered Nurse for the Southern District Health Board (SDHB) in the Coronary Care Unit and Cardiac Catherisation Labs. In 2010 he was appointed Clinical Nurse Educator for Cardiology, Cardiothoracic, and Respiratory Services, where he gained recognition for his development of educational strategies and his contribution to education. While in this role he was also a member of various DHB committees, including the Intravenous Therapy Committee and the Non-Invasive Therapy Committee.

In 2013 Paul was appointed Resuscitation and Mandatory Training Co-Ordinator for the SDHB (Otago). He was pivotal in re-establishing the Resuscitation Committee and creating an organisation framework for mandatory training programmes as well as restructuring the resuscitation training practices of the organisation, before taking on the challenge of running and redeveloping the Otago Clinical Skills Laboratories in 2016.

Paul’s main professional interest lies in the maintenance and improvement of professional clinical education, including point of care and centre-based simulation, as well as general clinical education practices.

Paul loves science fiction (and whisky).
