Research

Research focus is on the integrated cardiovascular, endocrine and renal control of pressure/volume homeostasis. Particular emphasis is placed on the role that key vasoactive hormones (the natriuretic peptides, adrenomedullin, endothelin and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system) play in the pathophysiology of circulatory diseases such as hypertension, myocardial infarction and heart failure, and ways of manipulating these systems in order to prevent and treat these diseases.

In the last couple of years interest has widened to include the urocortin family of peptides, which we have demonstrated for the first time to have beneficial effects in heart failure - and may therefore have therapeutic potential in this disease.
