Overview
A detailed study of a particular media genre, or genres, such as film noir, science fiction, horror, the musical.
An introduction to theories of genre and methods of genre analysis. This year we undertake an in-depth study of crime through a wide range of media forms. We will investigate stylistic, thematic, philosophical, psychological, and historical elements of crime, the complexities of the appeal of crime media, the intersections of crime media with other genres, and crime media’s relationship to cultural and social contexts.

- Understand key theoretical, methodological, and analytical issues raised by the study of media genres in general and crime in particular.
