Microbiome Otago offers Summer Scholarships for students. The aim of the scholarships is to encourage interdisciplinary research of the human microbiome by student investigators. At least two supervisors from different scientific/medical disciplines must be involved in each project. The projects need not be laboratory based. Projects of potential benefit to Māori health and wellbeing are of particular interest to Microbiome Otago.
The scholarships provide a student stipend of $4,000 and consumables support of $1,000 for supervisors. The duration of projects is 10 weeks in the summer of 2017-‐2018.
Microbiome Otago members submit projects to Professor Gerald Tannock (email@example.com). At least two supervisors from different scientific/medical disciplines must be involved in each project.
Applications should contain the following information:
1. Supervisors’ names and emails.
2. Where the research will be done.
3. Title and brief outline (200 words will suffice) of the project, clearly stating the aims and objectives of the project, evidence that materials and methods to support the project are available in the supervisors’ laboratory or location, and that ethics permission has already been obtained where appropriate.
Submit this information by 31 July 2017 to Professor Gerald Tannock (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Projects for scholarship support will be selected by the steering committee of Microbiome Otago and notified to the supervisors by August 15 2017. Supervisors may then contact prospective students and offer scholarships. Payment details will be given at that time.
Students will be required to complete a contract with Microbiome Otago before work begins.
