Dr Kobus Du Plooy Psychological Medicine, University of Otago
Kobus moved to Dunedin from South Africa in 2020 to take up his current position at the Department of Psychological Medicine. Prior to this he worked in various contexts, such as being in full-time private practice in Johannesburg before joining the University of Pretoria. From there he joined the North-West University (NWU) where he fulfilled multiple roles like being appointed the Performance Consultant for the Springbok Women's Sevens and NWU Varsity Cup rugby sides, as well as conducting workshops to improve employee wellbeing and performance as a consultant of Cognacity, a UK-based employee well-being company. His research interests include Interactional Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Group Therapy, Wellbeing and Performance Psychology.
In this seminar, he will present findings from a project that investigated common mental disorders and mental toughness among professional rugby players and briefly overview some of his current and future planned research projects.
