Associate Professor Colin Gavaghan heads the newly-established Centre for Law and Policy in Emerging Technologies, the only New Zealand-based research centre that will examine the legal, ethical and policy issues around new technologies.
In his talk he will discuss issues such as 'saviour siblings' - human embryos selected for implantation based on their suitability to donate life-saving tissue to an existing sibling, and the prospect of neuroscience and genetic findings being increasingly used as a factor in sentencing convicted criminals with certain genetic variations or brain abnormalities linked to violent behaviour.
