OERC Seminar: Matthew McCarten

Climate Change Risk Impact Opportunities Tool

Presented by Matthew McCarten

Research Associate, Sustainable Finance Programme, Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford

Abstract

"The Risk Impact Opportunities Tool (RIOT) is a web application that will support the assessment of firms' exposures to environement-related risks. Using an array of local and national risk hypotheses this tool provides an understanding of the physical and transition risks faced by firms under two different scenarios (1.5oC warming and Business-as-Usual (BAU) scenarios).

With this tool it is possible to identify and differentiate between firms that are at risk from these factors and this can inform investment strategies. This information can also be applied to new project- or asset-specific transactions to arrive at a ‘risk score’ and thus facilitate an understanding of what action might need to be taken internally."
