This week-long festival, hosted by the University of Otago, is a showcase of new plays, covering a wide range of themes, from various UNESCO Cities of Literature and elsewhere in New Zealand.
Some of the 20-minute plays, or 20-minute segments of longer plays, will be presented by visiting companies and students from other tertiary Theatre or Drama programmes, while Otago Theatre Studies students will stage a selection of scripts submitted from around the world as well as locally.
The programme will also feature workshops, panel discussions, and a series of forums on aspects of 21st century dramaturgy and playwriting.
The principal keynote guest is Tanya Palmer, the Producer/Director of New Play Development at Goodman Theatre, Chicago’s oldest and largest non-profit/non-commercial theatre.
Other keynote guests include Dr Fiona Graham, Director of the MA in Dramaturgy and Writing for Performance at Goldsmiths College, University in London, and leading New Zealand playwright Victor Rodger.
The public are welcome to attend all performances and other events, although there may be restrictions on numbers for some workshops.
