In a presentation here in Wellington last year international walkability expert Rodney Tolley argued that in the city, speed is not the solution, it’s the problem. In this sequel he explores how health-giving and sustainable cities – 'Cities of Places' – can be achieved despite current models, tools, strategies, policies, investments, cultures, attitudes and behaviours all being firmly based on the myth that ‘faster is always better’. With examples from around the world he will discuss the action required to slow us down and will conclude with a manifesto for the slow city.
